Re: Uwe Seeler
For anyone who's interested.

An Obituary of Seeler penned by the doyen of football writers - Brian Glanville - from the Grauniad.

Nicely done, and for anyone who has the inclination, it's worth looking through the reader comments that were generated (93 at time of writing) which show the high regard in which he was held.

Re: Uwe Seeler
Yes it was terrible defeat given England were 2 up and coasting.
Geoff Hurst said many years later that Bonetti hadn't expected to play as Banks never got injured. Once it became apparent that he was actually going to have to play he spent most of the day worrying about getting his wife a ticket to the game and then worrying if she was ok in the heat of the stadium.
Seeler admitted the cross was over hit and he was just trying to keep it in play as he headed the ball backwards . If Bonetti had just stayed in the goal it was a dolly catch. Instead he'd strayed off his line and and got caught in no man's land

Re: Uwe Seeler
I will always remember Uwe Seeler scoring W.Germany's second goal in q/f 1970 World Cup against England. He backhanded the ball and the ball looped over Peter Bonetti. To this day I have never watched any part of that game, it was and still is heartbreaking.

Re: Uwe Seeler
How bizarre a massive statue of his foot, not a foot with a boot but barefoot

Germans are fucking weird, you are right though, he had an astonishing goal ratio for Hamburg
